Foundation Gifts

Local and national foundations support a wide variety of funding priorities across Wayne State, including research, academic programs, community outreach and other initiatives that help make the university a premier institution of higher learning and research, as well as a vital community resource within the city of Detroit. 

  • Wayne State University has a robust research enterprise. In 2016, the university had research expenditures of $221.5 million. The Carnegie Foundation has designated Wayne State as a university with very high research activity.
  • More than 27,000 students attend Wayne State, engaged in learning through more than 340 academic programs.
  • 75 percent of Wayne State alumni live and work in Michigan.
  • Community engagement is an essential part of the university's mission. Numerous programs connect Wayne State students, faculty and staff with the people and vibrant culture of the city of Detroit.
